West Central Prison Inspired by The Walking Dead

The West Central Prison, also known simply as ‘the Prison’, is a main location in The Walking Dead comic book series written by Robert Kirkman, illustrated by Charlie Adlard and published by Image Comics. The Walking Dead focuses on Rick Grimes, a sheriff who is shot in the line of duty and awakens from a coma in the zombie apocalypse that placed Georgia under quarantine. He finds his wife and son, and meets other survivors, gradually taking on the role of leader among a group and later a community.

The prison is where the survivors settle after they are kicked off of Hershel Greene’s Farm. It is also where most of the character and continuity’s story-arcs were formed.

First appearance The Walking Dead #12 (September 2004).
